Beauty Tips

1. Your foundation will look only as good as the skin underneath. To get an even, smooth look, cleanse and exfoliate regularly.

2. If you have sensitive skin and are prone to allergic reactions make sure you test new cosmetics on a small patch either on the inside of your arm or your neck. If after 24 hours you don’t have a reaction it is safe to use the product.

3. If you have acne or find you cannot use any skin care products without getting an allergic reaction or dry itchy skin, make an appointment with a dermatologist.

4. Use mascara sparingly. Using too much will make your eyelashes stick together and form into blobs. Dip your brush only once to do both eyes making sure you twist, not pump the brush.

5. No matter how tempting it might be to drop into bed after being out late, don’t do it. Your skin will thank you if you remove all traces of makeup and apply your skin care cream before going to bed.

6. Take care of the skin around your neck as well as your face by applying moisturizer. This is a delicate area which is quick to show wrinkles.

7. Cosmetics do not last forever and using old products can cause irritations.

Honey As Healer

Ancient Healer Effective in Treating Infected Skin Lesions

Jem Bonnievale was 15 when he contracted meningococcal septicemia caused by an infection of Neisseria meningitidis. By the time the British teenager reached the hospital, he had multiple purple batches on his legs and fingers, which rapidly progressed to tissue death.

Both legs were amputated below the knee as well as fingers on both hands. He endured multiple skin grafts and suffered for months with non-healing infected sores. His case was extreme and difficult to treat because of the severe pain it caused. "I can't even begin to explain how painful it was just to have a small piece of dressing changed.
The nurses tried everything to make it easier, like changing the dressing in the bath, but it was agony," said Jem. Over the next six months the success of the grafts was variable and the sores showed heavy growth of Pseudomonas and Staphlococcus aureus. All traditional treatments were tried without success.
When nothing else had any effect on the chronic infected sores, clinical nurse Cheryl Dunford and her colleagues turned to honey. Dressing pads impregnated with sterilized active manuka honey from New Zealand were applied to one leg and a traditional dressing to the other leg. Within a few days, the honey dressed leg showed a reduction of wound bacteria. Both legs were then treated with the honey dressings. Within 10 weeks, all lesions were healed. Jem was released from the hospital, fitted with artificial legs and is getting on with his life.
The use of honey as medicine is mentioned in the most ancient written records. Today scientists and doctors are rediscovering the effectiveness of honey as a wound treatment. Peter Molan, Ph.D., Professor of Biochemisty at Waikato University, New Zealand has been on the forefront of honey research for 20 years. He heads the university's Honey Research Unit, which is internationally recognized for its expertise in the antimicrobial properties of honey. Clinical observations and experimental studies have established that honey has effective antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It painlessly removes pus, scabs and dead tissue from wounds and stimulates new tissue growth. "Randomized trials have shown that honey is more effective in controlling infection in burn wounds than silver sulphadiazine, the antibacterial ointment most widely used on burns in hospitals" says Dr. Molan. The significance of the case of the British teenager, as reported in the June issue of Nursing Times, is that it is the first case in which honey was used on multiple meningococcal skin lesions. The antibacterial action was evident as the mixed infection of Pseudomonas and Enterococcus cleared from the lesions in a few weeks and the number of colonizing staphylococci diminished to a harmless level.

Dr. Molan believes that if honey were used from the start in cases of meningococcal septicemia, there would be far less tissue damage resulting. "The remarkable ability of honey to reduce inflammation and mop up free radicals should halt the progress of the skin damage like it does in burns, as well as protecting from infection setting in," said Dr. Molan. "At present, people are turning to honey when nothing else works. But there are very good grounds for using honey as a therapeutic agent of first choice."

Researchers believe that the therapeutic potential of honey is grossly underutilized. It is widely available in most communities and although the mechanism of action of several of its properties remains obscure and needs further investigation, the time has now come for conventional medicine to look at this traditional remedy. With increasing interest in the use of alternative therapies and as the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria spreads, honey may finally receive its due recognition as a wound healer.

skin care

Master the basics
To prepare a smooth canvas for your makeup, always start off with clean, moisturized skin. You'll find that your makeup glides on and blends more easily.

1. Keep your skin free of buildup by using a gentle cleanser in the morning and at night. When cleansing your face, do so gently in upward motion stokes - do not tug, pull or scrub too hard to prevent irritation.

2. Freshen up your skin with a toner containing ingredients that suit your skin type.

3. Indulge your skin and keep it hydrated with a moisturizer that is compatable with your skin type. Make sure your daytime moisturizer contains SPF to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays.

4. Treat yourself to an at-home-facial 2 to 3 times a week. Use a mild cleanser, then exfoliate with a gentle scrub that contains exfoliants that are round and non-abrasive.

5. Apply a facial mask after exfoliating. Rinse off thoroughly and get a good night's sleep!

Tip: Even when you're steering clear of the sun, or it appears to be a cloudy day, always be sure your makeup foundation or moisturizer contains SPF 15 or higher.

Secret to a natural, flawless look

1. Apply foundation to your cheeks, forehead, and chin using a foundation brush, sponge, or clean fingertips. Blend the foundation all the way to your natural hairline with long, light strokes.
2. Continue blending over the jawline and onto your neck to achieve a natural, seamless look. Check your face and neck in natural light to make sure the foundation is completely blended in all areas.
3. If under-eye circles or red spots remain, do not add more foundation; it can look heavy and cakey. Instead, try a concealer.

Tip: Choose the shade of your foundation carefully. When testing out shades, pick one that matches the tone of your jawline exactly. It helps to use a mirror outdoors to see how shades look in natural light.

Tip: Begin by applying a small amount of foundation then increase amount to achieve the degree of coverage that suits your skin.

Tip: For daytime, mix your foundation with a light SPF moisturizer before applying for a smoother, more sheer application.

Hide imperfections

Concealer is more dense than foundation, allowing fuller coverage of trouble spots and hyperpigmentation (red areas). It can be used over foundation or on it own, and has greater staying power. Remember, a little goes a long way!

1. Since the skin under your eyes is more transparent, it tends to look dark, especially at the inner corner near the bridge of the nose. To even out the tone, concealer is a must. Using liquid concealer, gently pat over dark under-eye circles (don't sweep it across the entire area), then blend with your ring finger.
2. To cover trouble spots and imperfections, apply a thicker cream concealer onto the blemish or flaw. Then lightly press with a makeup sponge.

Tip: Choose the shade of your concealer carefully. When testing out shades, pick one that matches your skin tone or one shade lighter. It helps to use a mirror outdoors to see how shades look on your skin in natural light.

Tip: Prepare your skin with a light SPF moisturizer before applying concealer for a smoother application.

Getting an all-day flawless finish

A light even dusting of loose powder sets foundation and concealer, giving your face a velvety, more natural finish. It also provides smooth blending for any eye makeup or blush to follow.

1. Dip a puff or powder brush in loose powder. Shake off excess to avoid uneven distribution, then apply powder over entire face and neck.
2. To maintain a flawless finish throughout the day, apply pressed powder using a sponge or clean powder brush.

Tip: Face powder can be used alone, over foundation or over your moisturizer for a natural, sheer, no-shine look.

Tip: For the closest color match, choose a powder shade that is 3 shades lighter than your foundation.

Tip: If you are over the age of 30, avoid powdering under the eyes as it can make fine lines and wrinkles appear more obvious.

Tip: Facial oil-blotting sheets help to remove excess oil and shine without disturbing your makeup. Carry them with you everywhere you go!

Eyes Care

creating the sophisticated look

1. Apply a light eyeshadow over your entire eyelid from lash line to eyebrow bone, but not beyond.
2. Define the crease of your eyelid using a medium or dark shade. The deeper the shade, the more dramatic look.
3. To open up your eyes so that they appear livelier, place a dot of a light shade in the inner corner of each eye.

Tip: When choosing an eyeshadow shade, keep in mind that a pastel shade will look softer while a darker shade will appear more dramatic when applied.

creating elegant, dramatic eyes

1. To create a gorgeous nighttime look, use light, medium and dark eyeshadow shades in graduated tones. Apply the dark shade along your lash line, the medium shade on the crease, and a light shade up to the eyebrow bone but not beyond. Soften and blend any hard edges so one color seems to melt into the next.
2. To open up your eyes so that they appear livelier, place a dot of a light shadow in the inner corner of each eye.
3. For a sexy, smoky effect, trace the upper and lower lashes with a dark shadow then smudge with a blending brush. To optimize the look, this can also be done over eyeliner.

applying natural-looking eyeliner

Tip: For a natural-looking eyeliner and the illusion of lusher, fuller lashes, use a dark brown eye pencil and carefully press a series
of dots between your lashes following your lash line.

Tip: For the sophisticated look, draw a smooth fine line alone the top lashes.

Tip: To create the dramatic look, draw a line inside your lash line (as close to the lashes as possible), then along the top of the lash line.

how to get brighter, wider eyes

Apply one thin coat of mascara to both upper and lower lashes. For a more dramatic look, allow first coat to dry completely then apply a second coat concentrating on the base of the lash.

Tip: For a real eye-opener, use an eyelash curler before applying mascara. Curl gently at the base of the lashes, but never beyond the center of the lashes. Don't clamp down on one spot for too long or you'll get a sharp angle.

Tip: Don't pump the applicator wand in the mascara tube. Doing so will trap air inside and cause the mascara to dry out. Instead, twist the wand to collect more mascara on the brush.

how to get well-defined, well-groomed brows

1. Brush your eyebrows straight up with an eyebrow brush. Using small straight scissors, carefully trim any hairs that are curly or too long. Then brush the brows back into their natural shape.
2. Hold a pencil along the side of your nose to ensure that the inner edge of your brow lines up with the inside corner of your eye.
3. Move the pencil so that it intersects with your iris. The arch of your brow should line up with the pencil.
4. Angle the pencil from the outside edge of your nose to the outer corner of your eye to determine where your brow should end.
5. Tweeze where necessary and fill in with a soft pencil or powder.
6. Brush with an eyebrow brush and apply eyebrow gel to keep strays in place. You're done!

Cheeks Care

creating a natural, rosy radiance
When applying blush, you want the color to look soft and natural, as if it comes from within. Read below for tips on how to put on make-up.

1. Tap or lightly blow on the applicator brush to remove any excess blush before applying to prevent a harsh and uneven application.
2. Apply your blush on the apple of the cheek and carefully blend towards your natural hairline.
3. If you have two shades, apply the darker one on the apple of the cheek first, then use the lighter shade to highlight. Blend well so there is no visible line between colors.
4. Highlight your temples, forehead and chin.

Tip: To know "where to glow" bend over for 30 seconds, then slowly stand up. Where your cheeks are flushed is where you are meant to blush. Apply your blush there and it will be naturally rosy every time.

Tip: Cheek color should be used to enhance your complexion, not to change your natural skin tone. Use sparingly for daytime, then add more or a deeper shade for a more dramatic nighttime effect. For special occasions, dust a lightly frosted powder over your cheekbones for a subtle but alluring glow.

Tip: Make sure to blend your blush into your foundation well or it will tend to look unnatural and add the appearance of 5 years to your looks.

Lips Care

shape up your lips
Applying lipliner is not only a great way to define and accentuate the shape of your lips, but also to keep your lipstick from feathering.

1. Begin applyling lipliner at the center of your natural upper lip line to define the bow then work toward the outer corners to complete the line.
2. Start at one corner of your bottom lip then follow your natural lip line all the way to the other corner.

Tip: Choose a lipliner that matches your lipstick or a flesh tone shade for a soft, natural look.

Tip: To get plumper, pinker looking lips, do not touch up by drawing a hard lip line; smudge it so lips look fuller! For a more dramatic fullness, choose a lipstick shade with a hint of frost.

Tip: To avoid lipstick on your teeth, put your index finger in your mouth and then draw it out slowly with your mouth closed. What you see on your finger is what would have ended up on your teeth!
perfecting your pout
1. Apply color onto the center of your lips, blending up and out to the lip line working towards the corners.
2. For longer lasting color, gently blot with tissue, reapply lipstick and blot again.
3. For evening, remember to select a lipstick one or two shades deeper than your daytime color.

Tip: For a creamy effect, apply a lip balm to lips before applying lipstick.

Tip: For a matte effect, apply lipstick then blot gently with tissue.

Tip: For a sheer effect, apply lip balm. Gently dot a small amount of neutral color lipstick across lips, then smooth out.

Tip: For a glossy effect, apply lipstick then finish with a clear or nuetral color gloss coat for a moist, seductive shine. Remember, the more coats you apply, the more shine so turn up the volume!
getting smooth, soft, and supple lips
Tip: For smooth, soft lips, take a clean damp washcloth and gently rub lips for 60 seconds before applying lipstick.

Tip: For touch-ups during the day or night, carry a soft toothbrush in your handbag or makeup kit. Be sure to brush your lips gently.

Tip: Apply a lip balm or conditioner throughout the day to keep lips hydrated and protected from the sun's harmful rays.

Lip Care Tips

Lipstick

* If you are not fortunate to have full lips, wear the lightest, frostiest lipsticks you can find. They will cause your lips to look fuller. Follow with Sacha Cosmetics lipgloss.

* To prevent lipstick from getting on your teeth, put your finger in your mouth and close your lips-when you withdraw your finger it will remove excess color.

* You should use Sacha’s Vitamin E Lip Protector before application of any type of lipstick. It moisturizes and nourishes the lips preventing dryness and cracking.

* To create your own smudge-resistant lipstick blot your lips with one sheet of twoply tissue. Re-apply lipstick and blot again. This will absorb the oils in the product and leave the pigment and matte waxes.

* If you are over 40 we advise that you should avoid wearing matte lipsticks. You will look best with a little shine on your lips. Our makeup artists recommend that you always use a lip liner since it builds a dam that keeps the lipstick from ‘bleeding’.

* To remove lipstick from clothing, apply glycerine on the spot, rub lightly and wash as normal.

* No matter what color lipstick you choose ,apply lip liner to the outline and fill in your lips. You can then follow with a gloss or lipstick. When wearing a red lipstick, use a brown lip liner all over first as the red pigment will last longer.

* A great way to organize your lipsticks or use up the end of your lipstick is to dig out or cut off a chunk of lip color and place it in a lipstick palette case.

* Please DO NOT wear black or green lipstick (unless it is for halloween or some party).

* If you see any liquid or water coming out of the lipstick, keep it in a refrigerator.

* Avoid using very old lipsticks. They might cause pigmentation of the lips

Lipgloss

* Apply lip gloss over lipstick or alone. Remember that gloss would emphasize and therefore make your lips appear to be fuller.

* Women with extra-full lips, should use lip gloss very sparingly.

Lip Liner

* If lip liner is too dark tone it down with a small amount of foundation then reapply lip liner.

* Always use lip liner before and after applying lipstick to define the lips.

* Always sharpen your lip liner before lining your lips then touch the tip of the pencil gently to warm, soften and smooth the point.

* NEVER wear lip liner and lipstick colors together when they are contrasting colors.

* When applying lipstick, fill in your lips with a lip liner first. By this way the second coat of lipstick stays longer.

* No matter what color lipstick you choose ,apply lip liner to the outline and fill in your lips. You can then follow with a gloss or lipstick. When wearing a red lipstick, use a brown lip liner all over first as the red pigment will last longer.

Skin Care Tips

* Makeup artists will tell you that clear healthy skin is the perfect canvas for makeup. Use Sacha's simple but effective cleansing routine: Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize, Renew.

* Make your skin look soft, moist and clear just in time for summer! Use a buffing cream after you cleanse. Pay careful attention especially to the rough spots (elbows, knees, and heels). Follow up with a moisturizer made for your skin type and use one that exfoliates.

* For excessively oily skin use our Purifying Gel Cleanser to gently wash away the excess oils.

* Regardless of skin color or skin type you must use a daily moisturizer with at least SPF 15 sun protection. For dry skin use Sacha's Hydration Plus Daily Moisturizer. For oily skin use Sacha's Hydrating Daily Moisturizer. These moisturizers can be worn alone or as excellent under makeup bases.

* Keep your skin in great condition at all times! We recommend Sacha Cosmetics skin care products made specifically for your skin type.

* Make your skin look soft, moist and clear just in time for summer! Use a buffing cream after you cleanse. Pay careful attention especially to the rough spots (elbows, knees, and heels). Follow up with a moisturizer made for your skin type and use one that exfoliates like Visible Action Skin Revealing Lotion.

* If you have oily skin, blot away the excess oil by laying either a tissue or one of the face-blotting papers sold by some cosmetics companies over the face and blotting. Perm endpapers also work well. Do this before you do anything else.

* If you mix foundation and sunscreen in equal quantities and apply, it makes for an excellent day make-up that also protects the skin.

Skin types

* Dry skin - dry or flaky all of the time.

* Normal skin - stays dry most of the time. Sometimes oily around the nose and chin area.

Kamaflage Tips

* Use Kamaflage Cover Cream to conceal your skin blemishes. Kamaflage is yellow based and like our foundations will perfectly match your skin tone. Use it as a concealer or as a foundation.
* Quite a few women suffer from severe outbreaks of broken or thread veins on the nose and cheek. Due to their ignorance, they often avoid using make-up. However, it is possible to perfectly cover and conceal your customer’s red blotches by using camouflage.
* To disguise a severe area of red blotches, firstly ensure you use a camouflage cream which has a good coverage strength. Secondly, make sure the make-up reflects a natural look. You can achieve this by applying camouflage in thin layers. For a perfect coverage, apply more thin layers on top of each other rather than one thick layer. It is recommended to use a moist sponge for applying camouflage cream.
* Do apply corrective cosmetics directly to problem area for maximum coverage. On remaining areas of face, apply with a damp sponge to blend and even out skintone. The most common mistake women make when applying any kind of makeup is that they do not blend enough.
* Do use a moisturized base to achieve the most natural look and to eliminate caking.
* Our professional makeup artists recommend that you test products on the area where it will be used.
* Do use a shade lighter than one's skin tone to cover an inverted scar. This creates the appearance of a smooth surface. Using a shade darker than natural skintone on a raised scar will have the same effect.
* Do use a light shade as a primer to tone down color when camouflaging very dark areas such as intense bruising, age spots and tattoos. After concealing, use a shade that matches skintone to further hide the imperfections.
* Do use a light patting motion, rather than rubbing in makeup.
* Don't use camouflage makeup on any suspicious skin conditions, including unsealed cuts and burns, active acne, or raw or irritated skin. If these conditions exist, see your doctor.
* Don't assume that the color that is right for your face is right for your body. Skin on the body tends to be a shade or two darker than the face.

Eye Make Up Tips

Eye Shadow

* On days when you are really pressed for time, apply the base color to the eye then skip to mascara and you’re done.

* When applying eye shadow to the crease of the eye, keep your eyes open and slightly tilt your head backward. This will enable you to better see the shape you are creating and allowing the shadow to go into the crease.

* For more mature skin use iridescent shades sparingly.

* If you have puffy eyelids do not use iridescent or frosted shadows in light colors or white. Use softer, matte colors.

Mascara

* If your mascara is new and the deposit on the wand is plentiful, tissue off the wand before applying to prevent smudging.

* To get more product on the mascara brush try twirling the brush. Pumping it will cause the product to dry out sooner.

* Try experimenting with different colors of mascara – maybe brown, navy or green.

* Always use less mascara on your lower lashes.

* If your mascara thickens when it reaches the end of tube, place the tube in warm water. This will help to make mascara thinner. Never add water to the tube; bacteria can form.

Eyeliner

* When using an eye pencil, open your mouth slightly to relax the eye muscles. It will make lining a lot easier without having to pull or tug at your lid.

* Apply eyeliner as close as possible and even into the lashes to avoid the white line you sometimes get when liner and lashes don’t connect.

* DO NOT put on mounds of eyeliner because you will look like a raccoon about three hours later.

Eyebrows

* Always use a brow color that is as natural looking as possible. The main objective is to define not create over-powering brows. To fill in, comb first, then use feather like strokes with your pencil to fill in. To create a more natural look, comb again after applying the pencil.

* When using a brow definer or brush on brow, the same method is used. Comb, apply with a brush and then comb again. Sacha Cosmetics Dark Brown Single Eyeshadow is excellent for darker brows.

* When using powdered brow color, use a harder bristled angle brow brush and draw tiny hair-like strokes. When using a brow pencil, maintain a sharp edge and use the same technique as the brush. You may use a disposable mascara wand to soften. The trick is comb, apply, comb.

* If your brows are low or close to the eyes, bleaching them can “open up” the face. This is a practice of the world's best makeup artists.

* DO NOT overpluck your eyebrows so that instead of filling in tiny spots, you will be drawing a whole eyebrow that can smudge and look very fake.

Blush Tips

* Draw an imaginary line downwards from the center of the eye.

* This is the furthest point on the cheek where blush should be applied.

* Apply blush along cheekbone from hair line downwards to avoid ending up with a heavy "blob" of color on the cheek.

* Always remember less is best.

* Be sure to do the blush test. Once you are done with your entire makeup stand back, look in the mirror. Check to see if your face is ‘balanced’. You should have on just enough blush to make you look as though you are blushing. If you have on any more than that you need to tone it down.

* To soften blush apply some powder over your blush. In the evening you have a little more liberty and so you could go a bit heavier according to the look you wish to achieve.

* When applying blush use a darker shade to contour your face and "lift" your cheekbones. We recommend light colors of Sacha Cosmetics blush to highlight.

* Use your blush brush to apply blush with small half-moon shaped strokes moving from your hairline to your cheek bones. Do not apply close to the nose. Keep your blush on the cheek bones.

* If you have sallow skin, pick a foundation that disappears on your face. To counteract your skin tone choose a pink or rosy blush.

* For a very natural look, apply blush on the cheekbones and eyelids matching the color of the lipstick.

* To tone down blush, apply a dusting of powder on top to subdue the color.

* Never overdo your blush application, tap excess blush off your brush before applying.

* Use a very small amount of blush for mid-day makeup touchup. The oil from your skin will grab color and intensify it.

* Invest in a big fluffy blush brush just as makeup artists use. It will give you a soft, even blush of color.

* Apply blush after powder for smooth, even look with no streaking.

* Glow Without Blushing. When you just want to add warmth to the skin instead of a standard blush color like rose, peach or plum, use a light to medium bronzing powder in place of blush.

* When you wear blush, DO find a color that is not too red for your skin tone since you will look sunburned.
